MOST modern and efficient air conditioning. The system of choice for MarPlus.

What type of system to install?

As we have already seen, if you intend to design and certify a house with energy rating A, i.e. the best category included in the Technical Building Code in its Basic Document on Energy Saving, DB-HE, it is necessary to consider the energy consumption of the main equipment to be installed. In other words, it is necessary to quantify the energy used by the active components of the house and select only the most efficient equipment to minimise energy consumption. Among this equipment are the air-conditioning systems.
At Ganditec, we could choose to deliver your next new home in Gandia in the MarPlus Residential Estate simply with a pre-installation of the air conditioning ducts but, in this case, we would not be able to certify the energy rating A, as we cannot guarantee the consumption of the equipment that you finally install.
This is because it needs to be verified with official programmes: introducing both the geometry and the building envelope, i.e. the passive characteristics of the whole house, and the real consumption characteristics of the main equipment to be installed, to see whether or not (for this geographical area) a non-renewable EP consumption of less than 23.8kW-h/m2/year is reached. This is a prerequisite for an A-rating. This is significantly more demanding than the 28kW-h/m2/year required under the current code for any new dwelling in the same area.

Seeking a single appliance:

When designing the air conditioning system, it was essential to use a single unit to cover all the heating and cooling needs: to avoid cost overruns, extra maintenance and to avoid using more space in your home than necessary.
One of the most fashionable and energy-efficient systems at the moment is underfloor heating/cooling by means of an aerothermal heat pump. At Ganditec, we investigated this possibility but we rejected it for your home for the following reasons:

  • The computer simulation for MarPlus houses shows that it takes more hours per year to cool the house than to heat it. In other words, the efficiency of the system in cooling is more important than its efficiency in providing heat.
  • Underfloor heating/cooling systems in our geographical area show a low cooling efficiency in the middle of summer, provided they are not helped by complementary methods: In Gandia, the meteorological historical series shows some months of July and August with average maximum temperatures above 30ºC and a relative humidity in the environment above 60%. The main problem for cold radiant systems is the dew temperature. Using a psychrometric diagram we can see that for a normal room temperature on a typical summer day with 33ºC and a relative humidity of 60%, the dew point will be around 24ºC. This is the temperature below which the dew point can be reached. This is the temperature below which water droplets will start to condense on the radiant surface.
On the other hand, the power of a radiant system is a function of the difference between the temperature of the surface (above 25ºC) and the operating temperature of the system (for example, if it could operate at 18ºC, the power would be adequate as there would be a temperature gradient of 7ºC).
However, given the dew temperature calculated for the summer day of our example of 24ºC, this value limits this differential to only 1ºC and, by safety margin so that water droplets do not condense, the system in this case would not even switch on.
  • If accessory systems such as dehumidifiers are used to keep the RH at still healthy values, e.g. 55%, even so, for an intense summer day as described, the dew point would only improve by one degree, to 23ºC, and the temperature gradient 25ºC-23ºC = 2ºC would still be insufficient. To work properly, we should be able to stabilise and control the dew point directly, but this implies complex and expensive management systems that usually require other complementary equipment, which is exactly what we are trying to avoid.
  • They also have a high thermal inertia. This is not necessarily a disadvantage, but it should be known that they require a long operating time to reach the desired parameters even under optimal conditions.
  • Therefore, although it is a pleasant and efficient system for radiating heat in winter, we have seen that it is not as valid in the Gandia area for the summer, especially if we do not want to have to complement it with other systems.

Heat pump air conditioning systems have improved radically in recent years, both in terms of efficiency and comfort, and the disadvantages associated with these systems have completely disappeared. Let's look at the reasons for these statements for the equipment Panasonic with NanoeTM X technology selected for the ground floor and first floor of his new home in the MarPlus Residential Complex in Gandia.

  • At the level of efficiency: The equipment is equipped with state-of-the-art inverter technology. Thus, it has a both cooling and heating capacity of 5.7kW, using only a nominal electrical input power of 1.61kW and 1.41kW for cooling and heating respectively.. This implies a SEER efficiency of 6.6 and a sCOP of 4.4 which, according to the EU energy label scale, is equivalent for heating and cooling to an excellent A++ / A+.
  • In terms of comfort:
    • Sound: The sound pressure level of the indoor machine at 1.5m from the machine, according to a standardised test, is only 23dB.
    • Indoor air quality: Incorporates a nanoe X Mark2 generator. This equipment generates up to 9.6 billion OH free radicals per second. The hydroxyl radicals neutralise pollutants, certain types of viruses and bacteria to clean and deodorise. As described in the link providedThese molecules alone in the environment are unstable and therefore seek to react with other elements and capture them, such as the hydrogen present in the air. In addition, the Mark2 generates the hydroxyls contained in water, so that they reach particles for a longer time after their emission, up to 10 minutes later. The triple effect it achieves by improving indoor air quality is to:
      1. Deodoriseinhibiting the odour of nuisance particles, such as tobacco smoke.
      2. Inhibits up to 5 types of pollutantsBacteria and viruses, Moulds, Allergens, Pollen, and hazardous substances. You can check the effectiveness of inhibition of viruses and bacteria in the link provided to the nonoeX technology where tests certify an inhibition capacity of certain viruses with up to 99.9% effectiveness.
      3. Moisturises: Skin and hair. Water molecules are emitted into the interior, as well as capturing and inhibiting hazardous substances. The drying effect of the old machines is a thing of the past.
OH radicals contained in water molecules, up to 10 minutes after their emission.

For all these reasons, and above all, for its significant improvement in indoor air quality, we have selected this system with nanoeX technology for your new home in the MarPlus Residential Complex in Gandia.
